I look forward to this special event every year! Watching the reenactment of the Civil War. If you happen to be a Southerner it isn't the Civil War, it is known as the War Between the States. But if you're really really southern it was called the War of Northern Aggression.
This year Bob Kroeger and Andrew Raffety joined us.
Anywhere from 200 to 800 people come out to reenact the battles held here at the Endview Plantation in Yorktown, Virginia. People in period costumes, using authentic weapons, canons, and muskets. There are women in colorful hoop skirts. Even children come out to reenact. The reenactment actually runs the whole weekend, but we only attend on Saturday. Sunday we're in church! :)
We spend the whole day walking around the camp sites, talking with the reenactors, and asking questions, and learning. This year's battle was the 150th anniversary of the siege of Petersburg. If you like photography, this is the place to be on a beautiful spring day!
The major battle is usually from 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. This year they had a battle in the morning too. The Boy Scouts sell hot dogs for lunch; which I always make sure I eat! I love hot dogs!!!
Then from the reenactment we head over to Andrea's Italian Restaurant for the best pizza in
Hampton Roads! Check out the pizzas!
But that's not the end yet either. From Andrea's it's on to Coldstone Creamery for dessert. By that time we are all ready to call it a day!
This is good!!!!! :) |
